Here Comes The Songwriter Revolution
via TuneCore Blog
By Jeff Price
An artist’s copyrights should be respected. The choice to charge or give away his or her creations should be up to the artist, and the artist alone.
When you cut through all the press releases and rhetoric of the RIAA, it boils down to getting the legally required licenses and paying the people (or entities) that control the copyrights to the songs and recordings. I could not agree more.
One of the many problems I have with the RIAA is not their supporting this fundamental principle, but their tactics and blatant disregard for anyone who is not one of their members. Suing grandma and college students is probably not the best idea. Pretending the world has not changed and everything should stay the same makes no sense. In addition, in many cases their positions and actions stifle revenue while slowing the growth and consumption of music. But what gets me most upset is this:

15 Critical Marketing Mistakes That All Musicians Must Avoid. (MUST READ)
THIS IS A MUST READ!
By Jon Ostrow of MicControl.com
Musicians are entrepreneurs whether they want to believe it or not. By writing music under a band name, pen name or even just their own name, they have effectively created a brand that must be properly marketed if it is to thrive and flourish. But there-in lies a major problem: not all musicians know everything about marketing and they will eventually make some critical mistakes that lead to the demise of their short-lived venture. It is, however, the musicians who take the time to learn from past mistakes made by other musicians, and furthermore learn to correct these mistakes, that are the ones who build up the kind of influential brand that has lasting power.
These are 15 potentially crippling, yet ultimately avoidable marketing mistakes that are all too commonly made by the emerging music community, along with tips to help you as an artist to overcome and succeed in the best way possible:

How To Post A Perfect Press Kit On Your Website
Via Cyber PR Urban
I’m often amazed when I go to an artist’s website, and I look around, and I’m trying to find basic press information and I can’t. It seems that in the age of Twitter, Facebook, and Facebook Fan pages, and constantly focusing on your two-way conversations, we’ve forgotten the important basics.
Cyber PR President Ariel Hyatt breaks down the essential things you need to post your press kit on your website.
How To Post A Perfect Press Kit On Your Website
This is a revised excerpt from my book, Music Success in Nine Weeks, and it talks about an asset that no matter what we all face with new digital solutions, new platforms and apps that we’re going to be forced to learn, we should always remember: Your press kit. It’s up to you to post your press information clearly and succinctly, so that you’re easy to find and write about.
Posting an accessible press kit to share with journalists and new media makers ( bloggers, podcasters, etc.) is good common sense.

4 Steps to a Successful Music Career in 2011
Via Cyber PR Urban
Step 1. Identify your goals.
Identify your specific goals on why your creating an online strategy Write them down! Usually physically writing something from pen to paper gives you a sense of responsibility. Post this up somewhere that you and your band can see it on a consistent basis. The worst thing you want to do is jump out of the gate blindly. That’s when you get overwhelmed, and frustrated. It always important to have a vision of what you want to achieve. This vision is really solidified by having actual visual representations of your goals.
Example:
- Have 100,000 plays on You Tube
- Increase online awareness
- Get more downloads on Itunes
- Build and grow my email list

No One Will Remember You... 10 Ways to Stop Being Forgetable
This Article is courtesy of Chris "Seth" Jackson's Blog www.HowToRunABand.com
What bands tend to forget, not everyone at the show knows who they are. Some people are just there to hang out and could care less about the bands. Knowing this, you have to use every tool at your disposal to get your band recognized. It’s no good to entertain a crowd of people and then let them leave not even knowing the name of your band. (It happens…trust me…)

iPad 2 Coming Soon
(Mashable) -- Apple's production partners are already hard at work on the new model of iPad, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.
The fact that Apple is working on an iPad 2, of course, is common knowledge. The famously tight-lipped company rarely talks about upcoming product launches, and isn't talking now. But Apple has never denied that it intends to follow up on one of its most successful products.

24-bit digital music downloads on the way.
San Francisco (CNN) -- Apple and other digital music retailers are in discussions with record labels to improve the quality of the song files they sell, executives involved in the talks say.
As a result, online music stores could eventually offer songs that sound truer to their original recordings, perhaps at a premium price.
Professional music producers generally capture studio recordings in a 24-bit, high-fidelity audio format.

Kanye's New Timepiece
Out of the dog house and back into the hearts of fans, Kanye West celebrated the success of his latest album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, by purchasing a custom made exclusive 18k yellow gold Tiret Watch.
The timepiece allegedly cost Yeezy somewhere in the range of $180,000, the watch is made of 18k gold with over 8 karats of yellow, black, brown and white diamonds, which were cut and placed to form an image of Kanye West.
According to The Luxist it took Tiret over five months to create the dial itself.
Last month, Usher commissioned Tiret to make a one-of-a-kind watch with his own image on it as well, at a price tag of around $250,000.
